Lehighton medical building plans need work
Plans for a proposed medical office in Lehighton need a little more work before they get the green light to proceed, Carbon County officials said Tuesday.
During the monthly meeting of the Carbon County Planning Commission, the board voted to recommend conditional plan rejection for two sets of plans for the Blakeslee Commons project. The first set of plans was a subdivision/lot line revision while the second was for land development. The proposal calls for creating a 21,029-square-foot medical office building, paved parking and unloading areas on 9.5893 acres at the intersection of Bridge and Ninth streets in Lehighton. Blakeslee Commons LLC is the developer.Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, said the two plans for the project have some issues that must be corrected to comply with Lehighton's Subdivision Ordinance before the county could recommend approval. He pointed out that some parcel information was incorrect and needed to be updated, permits for soil erosion and sedimentation control, storm water control and NPDES permits should be reviewed by the state and county conservation district and other minor issues needed to be addressed.David Lear of Lehigh Engineering was present at the meeting and agreed with the comments, saying that the group was meeting this week regarding the project details.Lehighton has final say over the plans for the project. This is the second time this year that the project has come before the county planning commission. In August, the commission also recommended conditional plan rejection of the project for additional problems, including that the developer had not yet acquired the property needed for the plans.Last December, Lehighton's Zoning Hearing Board, in a 3-1 vote, agreed to grant a special exception to Blakeslee Commons with regards to the property being zoned industrial.Conditions for the exception, according to an article published at that time, include bringing a complete plan before the borough's planning commission and demolishing and removing the existing building on the property.
