County's retirement fund takes a hit

Carbon County's retirement portfolio took a hit in September, but is rebounding this month, officials say.

Last week, Kevin Binder, first deputy controller, told the county retirement board that the portfolio value as of Sept. 30 was $69,588,291, down $1,619,936 from August.County treasurer Ronald Sheehan said the loss isn't as bad as it looks though because October is shaping up to be a good month for the portfolio."October is making a bit of a comeback," he said."It's scary when you see it (the loss) on paper though," Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard said.In other matters, the board voted to rebalance and reallocate $6.45 million from its large cap investment manager and move the funds into other equity and fixed income accounts.
