Tamaqua man to co-host polka show

A Tamaqua native will co-host the popular polka music program at northeastern Pennsylvania's public television station.

Joe Manjack, known as "Polka Joe," will step in to co-host all-new editions of Pennsylvania Polka at WVIA-TV in Pittston.Manjack, of Magic 105.5 WMGH in Tamaqua, has been involved in radio broadcasting since the age of 15 working after school and Saturdays at what was WSVB 105.5 FM in Tamaqua.At age 18, he was the on-air talent for Saturday afternoon programming and the Sunday Polka show on what was then WZTA 105 FM.Today, 46 years later, his voice is heard on the same position on the dial, 105.5 FM, now known as Magic 105.5 WMGH.The "Magic Polka Machine" hosted by Manjack has been on the air for over 41 years and can be heard every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.Manjack keeps polka music alive in lower Luzerne, Schuylkill and Carbon counties, plus parts of Lehigh and Berks.In addition to his on-air work, he is also the station engineer for Magic 105.5 FM and its sister station AM1410 WLSH.Manjack is a lifelong resident of the Tamaqua area and a 1973 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School.Co-host Ginny Fredmonski has been part of the WVIA team since September 2001 and is now the director of major and planned giving.Throughout the years, Fredmonski organized and executed many WVIA member events and is an on-air talent for WVIA's fundraising drives on WVIA-FM and WVIA-TV.
