A Lehighton Area High School music teacher is the employee who resigned earlier this year after receiving a termination notice, according to a memorandum of understanding between the district and the Lehighton Area Education Association.
David Perkins, who had directed choral activities at the high school, submitted his resignation Aug. 18, around two months after the school board unanimously voted to issue the termination intent notice.District officials have not elaborated on the reason for the notice.The memorandum was obtained through a Right to Know request.According to the document, there is no admission of culpability or wrongdoing by the district, Perkins or the teachers' association.The board, in August, approved Jessica Schafer as a long-term high school music teacher at the starting salary of $39,885.
