Rush-Delano seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 13 with 55 members and one guest, Ray Matroni, in attendance. The meeting was held at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville. Two new members were welcomed to the group: Dorothy Fegley and Jean Konidas.President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session and Chaplain Kathleen Valentine provided the invocation, "Fall Harvest."Birthday greetings were extended to Carol Sedlak. Anthony Zahora, Jim Engle, Dolores Walck and Doris Yeager were added to the sick list.Upcoming activities include a trip to Penn's Peak and the annual Christmas party, which will be held Dec. 8 at Chantilly's in Barnesville.Readings were offered by Shirley Becker and Ruthann Feane.The group meets at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 27.Owl Creek hayridesThe Owl Creek Reservoir Commission's Fall foliage event is scheduled for this weekend. Hayrides will be available Saturday and Sunday, featuring a 2.2.-mile trip around the reservoir.There will also be face painting, pumpkin decorating and roasting marshmallows over a campfire.Saturday's hours will be from 2 to 10 p.m. and will include a "Spooktacular" after dusk. Sunday times will be from noon to 5 p.m.Rain dates will be Oct. 24 and 25.Calvary UMThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a service of baby baptism.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m. This will include a "Connection Praise and Blessings" service.An hour of prayer and praise is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will include a Harvest Home celebration. Sunday school classes will begin at the end of the junior sermon. A time of fellowship will be held following the service. Also on Sunday, canned good items will be collected for the Trinity food bank.The bell choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and the choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.Broadway showA Books to Broadway show, benefiting the Tamaqua Public Library, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Tamaqua Community Art Center.The event will be presented by members of the Schuylkill Choral Society, who will perform tunes from Broadway plays that are based on books. These include such notables as "Les Miserables," "South Pacific," "Phantom of the Opera," "Guys and Dolls," "The Little Mermaid," "Porgy and Bess," "West Side Story" and "Wicked."The art center is located at 125 Pine St. The library is located at 30 S.
