A West Penn township man was killed Friday night in a single vehicle crash along Route 309 in West Penn Township.

The crash occurred about 10 p.m. as he was traveling north descending the north face of the Blue Mountain.

For some unknown reason his van drifted to the right, striking the guarding and going 50 feet down a steep embankment, hitting a large tree.

Firefighters of the West Penn Fire Company No. 1, members of the New Ringgold ambulance and West Penn Police all worked to save the victim, who died of his injuries.

West Penn fire police maintained traffic control at the scene reducing the roadway to an alternating one lane.

West Penn Township Police are investigating the incident.
