$12K sought for monitoring program

Carbon County is looking for over $12,000 to help continue to operate its Restrictive Intermediate Punishment program.

During the county commissioners' meeting on Thursday, the board voted to approve the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency grant application requesting match-free funds in the amount of $12,953.The money will be used for purchasing three replacement home monitoring ankle bracelets, supplies and daily monitoring fees. Currently the county has about 15 units.The RIP program allows the courts to sentence offenders with minimal crimes, such as second and third DUI offenses, to the home electronic monitoring program instead of prison.In 2014, the county was awarded $10,635 in state funding to help continue the program operations.In other matters, the county voted on the following items:• Approve an addendum to a software license and services agreement with Extract Systems LLC of Madison, Wisconsin, for a one-time purchase of 25,000 additional redaction counts at a cost of $1,200.The redaction program began last year after the county hired the company at a cost of $47,890 to redact sensitive information, such as minors' names and addresses and Social Security numbers from docket files in the prothonotary and register of wills offices. These files are now included in an online database that is available to attorneys.Since then the county has purchased additional counts to meet the needs of the offices.• Approve the resignation of Michael J. Hartmann of Jim Thorpe as a seasonal park ranger I, Parks, effective June 13.• Approve the resignation of Dawn M. Kneas of Jim Thorpe as a district justice secretary II, District Justices, effective June 19.• Approve a change of status for Francis L.DeMatto of Summit Hill, from seasonal park ranger I to lead seasonal park ranger I, Parks, effective June 15.• Approve two appointments in the clerk of courts office: Stephanie J. Cusanelli of Nesquehoning, collection clerk II, Bureau of Collections; and April E. Wilk of Lehighton, clerical specialist, Clerk of Courts, botheffective June 22.• Approve the leave of absence of Ann Marie Bossard of Palmerton, part-time cleaning person, from June 23, to July 1.
