The retirement of a Northern Lehigh School District elementary principal has resulted in the promotion of another district administrator.

With regret, the school board on Monday accepted the retirement resignation of Paul Rearden from his position as Peters Elementary principal, effective July 1.Rearden will begin his retirement from the district after five years of service.As a result, the board approved the administrative transfer of Paul Leonzi from acting principal at Peters Elementary to principal, at a salary of $92,721, effective July 1.A former guidance counselor at the middle school, Leonzi was named acting assistant principal at Peters in December 2013. He became acting principal in July 2014.Leonzi was initially appointed acting assistant principal, and then acting principal, after Rearden began to experience health-related issues.In other businessThe board:• Dismissed Connie Zellner from her employment with the district as a cook's helper, effective immediately.• Accepted the resignation of Elizabeth Chunko from her position as high school chemistry/physics teacher, effective the end of the work day June 15. Chunko has accepted a position in another district.• Accepted the resignation of Jessica Gold from her position as high school English teacher, effective the end of the work day June 15.• Approved the appointment of Michelle Hock, temporary professional employee, to senior high school English teacher, replacing Gold. Hock's salary will be $46,200, effective Aug. 24.• Approved the appointment of Maria Van Norman, temporary professional employee, to senior high school English teacher, replacing Denise Turoscy, who retired. Van Norman's salary will be $55,250, effective Aug. 24.• Approved the appointment of Andrea Meyers, temporary professional employee, to senior high school chemistry/physics teacher, replacing Chunko. Meyers' salary will be $46,200, effective Aug. 24.• Approved the administrative transfer of Linda Brown from family and consumer science teacher at the high school to guidance counselor middle school, at no change in salary, effective Aug. 24.• Approved the administrative transfer of Amber Kuntz from K-2 learning support teacher at Peters Elementary to sixth-grade learning support teacher at Slatington Elementary, at no change in salary, effective Aug. 24.• Approved the administrative transfer of Theresa Lobach from fifth-grade learning support teacher at Slatington Elementary to Life Skills Support teacher grades 3-7, at no change in salary, effective Aug. 24.• Approved the administrative transfer of Thomas Mertus from sixth-grade learning support teacher at Slatington Elementary to fifth-grade learning support teacher at Slatington Elementary, at no change in salary, effective Aug. 24.
