A Carbon County man admitted on Tuesday to assaulting a fellow prison at the county prison.
Zakary MichaelHunsinger, 22, of Junedale, Banks Township, pleaded guilty in two pending cases before Judge Joseph J.Matika.Hunsinger pleaded to one count each of assault on a prisoner and institutional vandalism for an incident on Feb. 8 at the county jail in Nesquehoning.He also pleaded to one count each of simple assault and criminal mischief for an incident on March 11 at the residence of his brother in Tresckow, Banks Township.In the prison incident Nesquehoning police said Hunsinger assaulted his cellmate, Jeffrey Hosier, by knocking him to the floor and against a toilet in the cell. The force caused a head injury to Hosier that required medical attention. The toilet was also ripped from the wall.In the incident with his brother, Derek Hunsinger, state police at Hazleton said the defendant entered his brother's home without permission, damaging doors in the process. When confronted by his brother, he had a knife in his left hand and lunged at his brother. Derek Hunsinger was not injured in the incident.Matika accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing ordering the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report. Hunsinger is still an inmate at the prison, failing to make bail on the charges.
