Schuylkill officials open bids for meals

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday opened bids for group and home-delivered meals for senior citizens.

They'll award the jobs, providing 33,800 group meals and 98,800 home-delivered meals, at an upcoming public meeting.Nutrition Inc. of Irwin, Westmoreland County, bid $127,764 for the group meals and $373,464 for the home-delivered meals.Preferred Meals Systems of Berkeley, Illinois, bid $124,722 for the group meals and $364,572 for the home-delivered meals.In other business, commissioners appointed a part-time clerk and a deputy coroner to the coroner's office. The clerk, Michael Gavaletz of Pottsville, will be paid $11.09 an hour. The deputy, Diane Rhody, also of Pottsville, will be paid per task according to the fee schedule.Commissioners also withdrew appointments of two part-time nurses' aides and one trainee at Rest Haven. They terminated full-time nurses' aide Danielle Rubright, and transferred nurses' aides Darbi Mahute of Pottsville and Samantha Jalonski of Schuylkill Haven from part time to full time. They will each earn $12.68 an hour.Commissioners also accepted the retirement of juvenile probation officer James Cunningham of Pottsville, effective May 29.
