Up to 2 inches of rain Sunday

The heavy rainfall our area received was surely a welcome dose of precipitation for brown-colored lawns.

While more rain could still be in the works, another batch of similar moisture may prove to be detrimental to creeks and streams.Tom Kimes, AccuWeather senior meteorologist, said the amount of rainfall that fell Sunday afternoon into early this morning was variable across the area."Most of the area looks like it received anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 inches," Kimes said. "That's a lot of rain for a 12-hour period."Kimes said that because it had been dry, water levels were low."For the most part, the streams and creeks were able to handle that amount of rain, not to mention it was very beneficial to crops, gardens and lawns," he said."What could be a problem is if we get more heavy rain."More rain was possible this afternoon, tonight and possibly into the first half of Tuesday morning, Kimes said."If we get too much rain, we'll have to start watching the creeks and streams," he said. "It's something we're going to have to keep an eye on."Still, Kimes said, "The flooding issue aside, this has been beneficial for the area." The area has been in drought watch for a few months because of low precipitation this winter and spring."Obviously, we need the rain," he said. "This has been a huge help."
