Nesquehoning Borough council actions this week

Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on or discussed the following items this week:

• Approved Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1's request for a community festival on the fire department grounds Aug. 15 and 16; a firetruck parade Aug. 15; and to shut down the 200 to 400 blocks of East Center Street for judging of the parade. The festival will run from 3 p.m. to midnight on Aug. 15 and noon to 9 p.m. in the grove area of the fire department, located on the east end of Catawissa Street.• Kitchko reported that from April 1 to 30, the police collected $1,912.14, issued 72 citations, had 442 incidents reported, and drove 3,585 miles while on patrol.• Appointed Regina Kennedy as the deputy zoning and code enforcement officer on an as-needed basis.• Adopted the parking time limit ordinance. The new ordinance designates how long a vehicle can be parked on a borough street without being moved before it is ticketed and towed.• Adopted the final agreement for the Teamsters contract between the borough and its public works department union employees, retroactive to Jan. 1, under the terms outlined last month.• Approved naming Daniel Staehle as the lead man in the public works department under the new Teamsters contract, effective June 1. Staehle will receive a one-time $1 an hour increase.• Approved hiring Nicholas Degiglio as a utility worker, date effective based on when all paperwork and physical is complete.• Approved a $500 donation to Dimmick Memorial Library in Jim Thorpe, the library that Nesquehoning belongs to, after receiving a request from the library last month.• Approved a $200 donations to Carbon County Friends of Animals.
