More radios distributed to county fire companies

Another round of radios for Schuylkill County's 110 volunteer fire companies was approved for distribution Wednesday by commissioners.

This is the second of eight deliveries of $5 million worth of radios commissioners bought in December for the companies. On March 18, commissioners approved 20 companies for the equipment.On Wednesday, they signed off on the distribution of portable radios to Good Intent Hose Company, Llewellyn, Phoenix Park, Forrestville, Clover, South Cass, and Mt. Pleasant fire companies; Good Will Fire Company, Minersville; Minersville Fire-Rescue; Mountaineer Hose Company, Minersville; New Minersville Fire Company; Citizens Fire Company, Branchdale; Newtown Fire Company; Donaldson Fire Company, and Tremont Fire Company.The organizations all have voted to accept and sign the agreements necessary to receive the radios.They will also receive training. The companies will also be getting movie radio equipment, to be installed at a later date.The companies have been sectioned into eight groups, according to where they are in the county. There are six groups left in line for the equipment.Commissioners bought the 1,140 mobile and portable radios on Dec. 24.The equipment was purchased through a state COSTARS contract with Motorola Solutions.
