Philly man gets prison for forged prescription

A Philadelphia man was sentenced to a state prison term on Tuesday in Carbon County court on a charge of criminal conspiracy-forgery.

Richard Knajib Johns, 36, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 21 to 42 months in a state correctional institution. He previously pleaded to the charge.Johns was arrested by Lehighton police on July 30, 2012, at the Rite Aid pharmacy along North First Street. He presented a forged prescription for oxycodone. There is a co-defendant in the case.Johns is currently serving a state prison term on drug counts imposed last year in Montgomery County.Johns has a long prior criminal record involving drugs and admitted to a drug abuse problem.He said since his incarceration in the state system he has been placed in a drug rehabilitation program, which has helped him with his addiction.Serfass also ordered Johns to supply a DNA sample, have zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, pay court costs of about $1,000, and when released on parole render 200 hours of community service.He was given credit for 28 days already spent in jail on the charges. Serfass also ruled the sentence would run concurrent with the Montgomery County term.
