Weather closes Penn State for first time in 8 years

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State's main campus is closed for the first time in eight years due to icy roads and forecasts for more snow.

The university says dining halls will remain open Wednesday and a 6 p.m. men's basketball game is still on, but the library and fitness facilities are closed.

Classes are scheduled to resume Thursday.

The National Weather Service forecasts a temperature dive and 2-4 inches of snow Wednesday.

Icy conditions Tuesday night forced the visiting Ohio State basketball team to land in Latrobe, about a 110-mile southwest of State College.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the team's flight and bus ride took 8½ hours.

Penn State's Campus Weather Service says the university last cancelled classes for an entire day on Feb. 14, 2007 due to a foot of snow.
