A Nesquehoning teen was thrown from her vehicle and fatally injured in a three-car collision Sunday in Tamaqua.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a crash near 546 South Center Street, Route 309, near the area of the Country Tile shop, shortly after 8 a.m.Tamaqua Police said Autumn Lynn Young, 17, of Nesquehoning, was driving north in a 2000 Chrysler Sebring when she lost control on a snow-covered curve, entered the southbound lanes, and struck a 2009 Nissan SUV driven by Nancy Ann Evans, 56, Macungie.Young's driver's door was broadsided by the SUV. The Chrysler then spun 180 degrees and ejected Young on to the roadway.A third vehicle, a 1999 Honda CR-V driven by Robert Butcher of Morrisville, approached the scene as the collision was taking place, police said. Butcher saw the crash happening and deliberately drove into the snowbank to avoid it. His CR-V was later pulled from the snowbank and was able to be driven away. The other two vehicles were removed by Hope's Collision and Towing, Tamaqua. The victim was fully ejected from the vehicle onto the roadway. Young was pronounced dead at the scene by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Melissa Sommers.Schuylkill County Coroner David Moylan acknowledged that he would perform a CT scan on the body today at Simon Kramer Institute, New Philadelphia, to help determine cause of death.Evans had to be extricated from her vehicle by Tamaqua Rescue Squad and South Ward Fire Company personnel. She was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital by Tamaqua Community Ambulance. Those at the scene indicated the victim was traveling northbound when the vehicle appeared to have crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an SUV.All three cars came to rest on the southbound lanes of the highway, with the Honda CR-V vaulting onto a plowed snow bank. The crash occurred in an area nicknamed Dead Man's Curve, just north of the former White Diner/Jones Grille.Traffic was closed in both directions until shortly before 10 a.m.Tamaqua Fire Police set up three diversion points to control traffic on the four-lane highway. One was located at the Hess gas station, where southbound traffic was forced to turn around and head north.A second checkpoint was set up at the intersection of Owl Creek Road and prevented all traffic from heading southbound from that location. All northbound traffic, as well, was intercepted and diverted at South Tamaqua near the former Leiby's Restaurant.Responding were the following Tamaqua units: police, fire department, ambulance, rescue squad, fire police and West Penn Township fire police.Kathy Kunkel contributed to this report.
