The Jim Thorpe Area School District is considering using its own resources to transport special needs students after learning the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit is charging about $300,000 annually for busing service.

The district will look into the cost effectiveness of purchasing or leasing six vans to transport its 43 students to facilities as far away as Parkland and Allentown. If the district decides to provide its own transportation, the changes will not go into effect until the next school year.
