A busy concert lineup at Penn's Peak

You don't have to burrow inside for six more weeks of winter.

Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe has a hectic concert schedule over the next two months that offers a wide variety of music to get you out and about.Next week, there are two big events scheduled.On Feb. 13, Dennis DeYoung, a founding member of the band Styx, brings "The Music of STYX" to Carbon County's largest music venue. The concert begins at 8 p.m.This is a return appearance for DeYoung. All his performances have attracted large crowds at the Peak.On Feb. 14, it's Valentine's Day and at Penn's Peak there's a very special event a Valentine's dinner dance featuring the band Remember When. This has become an perennial hit at the Peak, and tickets must be purchased in advance. For information, call the box office at 866-605-7325 or Deb Biege at 610-826-9663. Ticket prices, which include show, meal, gratuity and applicable taxes, are $49 per person.This year's concert is especially significant. Remember When has been doing a successful oldies show for 17 years. After this summer, the band plans to retire.Bud Wychulis of Remember When said on his website, "As the saying goes ... all good things must come to an end. After some soul searching, we've mutually agreed to make the summer of 2015 our last as a band. We are not breaking up. After all, we're family, and families don't do that. We are 'retiring.' We're looking forward to having extra time to spend with family and friends, and to do the things we don't get to do as much as we'd like."Just announced for Penn's Peak are two nights of one of the most acclaimed Grateful Dead re-creation bands in America, Dark Star Orchestra.Performing to critical acclaim worldwide for nearly 17 years and over 2,200 shows, Dark Star Orchestra continues the Grateful Dead concert experience. Their shows are built off the Dead's extensive catalog and the talent of seven talented musicians.On any given night the band will perform a show based on a set list from the Grateful Dead's 30 years of extensive touring or use their catalog to program a unique set list for the show.
