Three placed in probation program

Three first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Thursday by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

If they successfully complete all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.Elizabeth Rose Light, 20, of Lehighton, was placed for a year on a charge of driving under the influence. She was arrested on July 8 by Lehighton police along Bridge Street. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $600 for the cost of the program and had her license suspended for 90 days.John Ramey Williams Jr., 60, of Lehighton, was placed for six months on a DUI charge. He was arrested on July 3 in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test result was 0.22 BAC.He was assessed $550 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and his license was suspended for 60 days.Justin Farrell Ziegenfus, 22, of Lehighton, was placed for a year on a charge of resisting arrest. He was arrested on March 9 by Jim Thorpe police in the area of 14 W. Broadway.He was assessed $650 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 50 hours of community service, and make restitution of $100.The three also must pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
