Panthers get back to dual meet action with tough loss to Eagles

Even in defeat, Tim Robb was able to find reason for optimism.

Though his Panther Valley team suffered a 53-12 setback in a Schuylkill League Division I match against Blue Mountain last night, the Panthers coach was still able to put the contest in perspective."We'll learn. This is a good lesson for us," Robb said. "We'll use this to build off of and hopefully this will jump start us."Panther Valley (6-6, 2-2) competed in and hosted its annual Anthracite Duals over the weekend. The team also went to the Damascus Holiday Tournament in Maryland the week before that. But the Panthers hadn't been in a standard dual since a contest with Tri Valley in the middle of December, a break that Robb felt hurt his team."We've had a little bit of time off," he said, "but I think this will actually be good for us in the long run. This gives us a chance to jump on them and say, 'Are you where you want to be?'"The same concern could have been raised for a Blue Mountain (12-0, 2-0) squad that had also focused primarily on tournaments since a match against Pine Grove on December 17.After watching the Eagles win all 10 of the bouts that were contested on Wednesday night, however, any worries head coach JJ Fasnacht had about his team's preparedness were quickly put to rest with what proved to be one of its most dominating performances yet."My guys aren't really wrestling enough to know where we're at, so we've just been working out as much as we can," he said. "But we're excited about what's happening now, because now we're going to start competing more."It's just been tournaments and practice over the last few weeks. But now I think the morale is going to get a little bit better here as we start to get into the swing of things. I'm definitely happy with where we're at."Blue Mountain earned bonus points in five of its 10 victories, with Ian Cagle (170) and Erech Noecker (220) both picking up first-minute pins in their respective matches.Panther Valley lost several tight contests, and it started early as Dylan Moyer dropped a 6-4 decision to Devon Krammes at 182 pounds in the second bout of the night after giving up a takedown with 20 second left in the third period. The Eagles' Chase Sincavage also scored late in his match against Hunter Kennedy at 132 pounds to claim a 4-3 decision, while Hunter Blankenhorn survived a late scramble to earn an 8-5 decision over Tanner Kennedy and Chris Seaman fought off a charge from Grant Lorkowski to preserve an 8-7 decision. On a night where the scoreboard indicated a resounding victory for Blue Mountain, Fasnacht noted the gritty efforts from many of his wrestlers meant just as much as any of the team's more decisive triumphs."I think they all learned that if you just continue to wrestle, continue to push, you can do it," he said. "And I think they get a lot of confidence out of that, knowing they can wrestle for six solid minutes instead of 5:30 or 5:45."Panther Valley's two wins came from Justin Ogozalek (106) and Darren Goida (126), both via forfeit.Blue Mountain 53,Panther Vy. 12106 - Justin Ogozalek (PV) won by forfeit113 - Ben McQuillen (BM) pinned Gary Goodhile in 2:47120 - Hunter Blankenhorn (BM) dec.
