Man jailed after chase, crash on turnpike

Angered over text messages, a Swoyersville man allegedly kidnapped his girlfriend and her two children leading police on a high-speed pursuit that ended with a crash on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to charges filed.

Kabril Williams-Keyes, 22, of Shoemaker Street, was arraigned Friday by District Judge Joseph Carmody in West Pittston on a host of kidnapping, child endangerment and assault charges. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $500,000 bail.State police at Wyoming filed the charges against Williams-Keyes.According to the criminal complaint:Edwardsville police Officer Michael Lehman investigated a domestic dispute involving a man and a woman on Roosevelt Street at about 1 p.m.While being dispatched by Luzerne County 911 to two wrong addresses, Lehman was flagged down by Barbara Ann Keyes.Barbara Keyes allegedly told Lehman her son, Kabril Williams-Keyes, "snapped" and he was holding a knife to his girlfriend, Ernestine Pearson.Williams-Keyes allegedly forced Pearson and her two children, 4 and 1, into a Lexus and initiated a pursuit that ended on the turnpike in Carbon County.After the crash, Pearson allegedly told state police what happened that led to the pursuit.Pearson claimed she drove Williams-Keyes around to go shopping and pay bills on Dec. 31. She said Williams-Keyes slept the night in her apartment but she didn't want him too because he has been violent in the past, the complaint says.Pearson said everyone woke up and had breakfast on Thursday.After eating, Pearson alleged Williams-Keyes approached her holding her cell phone arguing about text messages. She claimed Williams-Keyes grabbed her and bit her finger.While sitting on a couch, Pearson claimed Williams-Keyes threw a knife telling her, "I told you not to lie to me. It's your last. I'm gonna do life," the complaint says.Barbara Keyes attempted to get the knife away from her son but her son pushed her.Williams-Keyes ordered Pearson and his mother to get dressed. Barbara Keyes escaped the apartment and called 911.Pearson told state police Williams-Keyes forced her and her two children into her car. She said Williams-Keyes drove to Interstate 81 and returned to Edwardsville.Williams-Keyes noticed police cruisers near Pearson's apartment and drove away initiating a pursuit on the North Cross Valley Expressway, state Route 115 and the turnpike, according to the complaint.While on the turnpike, Pearson claimed Williams-Keyes was telling her, "I told you not to lie to me. Look what you made my mom do. I'm not going to jail. You better kiss your kids goodbye. You don't love me. Look what you made me do. Say goodbye," the complaint says.Pearson allegedly told state police Williams-Keyes kissed his hand and touched the forehead of the 1-year-old, and intentionally crashed into a guide rail on the turnpike.Williams-Keyes is the biological father of the 1-year-old, the complaint says.No injuries were reported.
