Eight hurt in school van crash

A crash Friday involving a school van hurt eight people, including several students, said state police at Schuylkill Haven.

The crash happened at 2:30 p.m. in North Manheim Township when a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Corrine B. Firestine, 22, of Minersville, was in the parking lot of Rockview Center on Route 61 in Pottsville, waiting to make a right-hand turn onto Route 61 south.Firestine pulled into the path of a 2000 Dodge Caravan being driven south in the right-hand lane by Tracy Butler, 35, of Pottsville. The right front quarter panel of the Caravan hit the left front quarter panel of the Suburban.Ambulance crews from Minersville, Saint Clair and Schuylkill Haven assisted at the scene.Firestine was slightly injured, as were passengers Erik Hofman, 18, a 16-year-old and two 15-year-olds. Butler was also slightly hurt. A 13-year-old girl in her car had moderate injuries, and a 16-year-old girl had minor injuries.They were treated at a Pottsville hospital.Police charged Firestine with improperly entering a roadway.
