MOUNT HOLLY SPRINGS, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania State Police say a 35-year-old man has been killed by a Norfolk-Southern freight train.

Trooper Robert Hicks said the man was lying across a railroad track in South Middletown Township in central Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon.

The name of the Mount Holly Springs man was not released pending notification of his family.

Hicks says the engineer spotted the man and sounded his horn from a few hundred yards away and that the man stumbled in an attempt to get up. He says the engineer activated the train's emergency brakes, locking them up, but was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the man, who was killed on impact.

Hicks says the accident remains under investigation.
