Tamaqua woman faces theft charges, free on bail

A Tamaqua woman who was caught taking cash from a tax preparer's wallet is free on bail, but must abide by a strict set of rules.

Monica M. Brown, 25, was cited for attempted theft after an employee of H&R Block at 395 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, caught her on Nov. 22, crouched over the employee's purse, with her wallet open and cash in her hand.The employee grabbed the cash and wallet from Brown who, according to a police report, said she was sorry and left the office.On Feb. 14, Schuylkill County Judge D. Michael Stine agreed to release Brown on $10,000 unsecured bail. However, she must live at a certain address in Tamaqua, and must not move without notifying the district attorney's office.She also must not possess or consume alcoholic beverages, controlled substances or drug paraphernalia. She may not leave the state, and must get a full-time job by mid-March. Brown also must submit to random drug tests.
