People who crowded Blue Mountain Resort's Winterfest didn't have to step onto a football field for it to take on a Super Bowl type-feel.

Whether it was to go ski, tubing, or take part in the USA Luge Challenge, visitors flocked to the fourth annual event held this past weekend at the resort near Palmerton.Gordy Sheer, United States Luge Association director of marketing and sponsorship, said the USA Luge Challenge is an important program."It's something very unique," Sheer said. "We don't have anything like this at any ski area in the U.S."Though she brought her son, Luke Lewis, along to take his shot at the Luge, Andrea Lewis, of Harleysville, Montgomery County, said she had to try it for herself as well."I was going to go once or twice, and I've gone about 25 times," Andrea Lewis said. "I'm trying to be a cool mom.Andrea said she would recommend the experience to anyone."It's awesome," she said. "It takes it up to a whole new level."Her son, Luke, agreed."It's really fun," said Luke, 11. "It's my first time doing it."Amy Minors, of Haddonfield, N.J., said she was glad she brought her son, Eliot, 2, to Winterfest."I just wanted to take advantage of a nice, warm day while there's still some snow (on the ground)," Minors said.Nicky Chirico, special events coordinator, said she was impressed with the turnout."The people think it's awesome," Chirico said. "People come from out of state to come tubing or to ski, and they see something going on that's free."Held Saturday and Sunday, the event consisted of ice carvers who carved sculptures; The Masters of the Chain Saw; Ma-Luk Dog Sledding; Snow Shoeing by Eastern Mountain Sports; Telemark skiing.On Saturday, the highly popular Torch Light Parade was followed by an impressive fireworks display.
