1 dead, 2 injured in I-78 crash

EASTON, Pa. (AP) One person is dead and at least two others are injured after a fiery crash along a busy highway in northeastern Pennsylvania. The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. Monday in the westbound lanes of Interstate 78 at the Pennsylvania state line in Williams Township, Northampton County. Pennsylvania State Police say the driver of a car was stopped at the toll booth when a ShopRite tractor-trailer came through and hit the car, which got lodged under the truck and caught fire. Authorities said the driver of the car died. The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to a hospital. Police said a toll worker was also injured while running toward the crash with a fire extinguisher. Investigators are examining surveillance video from the tolls to determine what caused the crash.
