Tamaqua's Historical and Architectural Review Commission approved four applications from applicants who wish to make changes to buildings within the borough's historical district.

Board Chairman Josh Esposito, who is Tamaqua's Code Enforcement Officer, explained that the board will issue a "certificate of appropriateness" to each applicant, meaning that the proposed change meets the HARC guidelines. Next, plans must be approved by town council, he said.The applicants and their requests are:Stanley Kieffer, 116 E. Broad St., wants to replace panels on an existing sign. The sign will not have internal illumination.East End Fire Co., 556 E. Broad St., plans to install a generator at the rear of the property on East End Ave.Tamaqua Borough, plans to install a generator on the south side of the Water Dept. garage.TKT Miller Partners, 44 W. Broad St., will remove the rear portion of the building. In November 2012, the building was condemned due to unsafe conditions; the partial demolition would remove the damaged portion. After demolition TKT Miller Partners plans to build a 72-foot-long covered parking area, while keeping the existing, uncovered parking area. Esposito said that the TKT Miller must have a design professional submit blueprints to be approved by HARC, before the requested changes are submitted to council for approval.
