As the New Year's ball descended in New York City's Times Square for the 100th time Monday night, nearly 1,000 Tamaqua residents welcomed the new year at the 10th Annual Ball Rise celebration, "Times Square on Broad Street."

Gathered in front of the ABC Hi-Rise building on the 200 block of East Broad Street and braving temperatures in the teens, celebrants watched 15 illuminated eagle cut-outs rise up each of the building's 16 stories to a giant "2008," synchronized with the lowering of the ball in New York City.
