Joe Snedeker of WNEP bringing his annual bike ride to Palmerton

Joe Snedeker is going to be pedaling his way into Palmerton on Monday, July 22 and the town will be rolling out its red carpet for WNEP's celebrity weatherman as he bikes to raise money for St. Joseph's Center.

Snedeker will bike through much of the WNEP viewing area on his 16th annual "Go Joe" nearly 500-mile bike ride for St. Joseph's Center, starting Monday.Communities along the way, like Palmerton, are creating a festival atmosphere, and fans are invited to join Joe and the WNEP family at these locations to make a donation.Snedeker is hoping to build on the past 15-year total of over $1 million raised for the children and young adults with intellectual and physical disabilities of St. Joe's.He will begin his bike trek Monday morning at Hazleton Area High School and take a short break at the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company Fairgrounds. The afternoon ride follows Rt. 611 through Swiftwater and Scotrun to Rt. 715 toward Reeders and Brodheadsville and on Rt. 209 to Gilbert and Kresgeville.The ride winds back to Palmerton for festivities in the town's Borough Park.Susie Arner and Holly Sell, said he will proceed down Forest Inn Road and Delaware Ave. Monday afternoon.He will be at the park from 4-7:30 p.m. There will be games, raffles, and food.A DJ will be providing musical entertainment and there will be much more.All proceeds from this event will be donated to "Go Joe's" charity of St. Joseph's Center."Everyone should come out as these community groups and businesses put on a super fun event to help Joe in his mission to raise funds for St. Joseph's Center," says Arner.Plus you can see Snedeker do the weather, live from the park.A complete turn by turn map of Joe's expected route can be found at WNEP.com.The trek ends on Friday, July 26 when he pulls into the St. Joseph's Center Festival in Scranton during the Festival 2013 Telethon.This year, Snedeker will have some company on his ride. "Guest riders" from the WNEP family include Reagan Medgie, Sharla McBride, Marisa Burke, Tom and Noreen Clark, Nikki Krize, Don Jacobs, and Sister Maryalice of St. Joseph's Center. Snedeker's son Joey will join his father for the last leg of the ride into the St Joseph's Festival Telethon.Safety is always a concern. Snedeker asks that viewers refrain from attempting to join him on his ride. He also asks that fans not attempt to hand him money while he is biking. Donations will be accepted by 'lead' and 'chase' vehicles as well as at the scheduled stops at midday and in the evening.Donations can also be mailed to Go Joe 16 by sending a check payable to St. Joseph's Center, care of WNEP, 16 Montage Mountain Road, Moosic, PA, 18507."We have a handful of corporate sponsors that each give $3,500 to the ride," says Snedeker. "And we're grateful for their support. But they only account for a small part of the total. The majority of it comes from our viewers. And what's really amazing is that it comes in five and ten dollars at a time. We tell folks that every dollar counts, and it does."St. Joseph's Center is an independent Catholic agency sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
