Maddyfest, a celebration of life event honoring a seven-year-old girl who lost her life in a tragic fire last month, Madison Arner, will be hosted at the Lansford Little League Field on Sunday, July 21, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Proceeds of the event will go toward helping Madison's family cover funeral expenses.Madison lost her life in an electrical fire that destroyed her residence in McAdoo last month and was the seven-year-old daughter of John Arner of Nesquehoning and Lorraine Searfoss of McAdoo.Another event, "Flying High with Maddie Fire Safety Day" was held recently to benefit the family but tragedy struck again. An undetermined amount of cash raised during the event was stolen from the van of one of the organizers while he was inside the fire company where the event was hosted.Friends of the family, Jennifer Hoffman, Mindy Turrano and Yvonne Stoffey are in charge of organizing the event. Hoffman said they are urging people to come out and support this wonderful family in honor of Madison.Hoffman said any money left over after covering the funeral expenses will go to establishing a fund to help future fire victim's in Madison's honor.As part of a fire safety awareness instruction at the event, there will be fire trucks and a fire house present. In addition to the fire safety awareness instruction, there will be music by DJ Mushaboom Entertainment by Hoyt, a basket raffle, face painting, a dunk tank, crafts, food, a "Walk a Mile for Madison" event as well as other activities."Maddyfest is all kid-friendly so it's something that Madison would have loved to attend," said Hoffman.The event is free to enter and tickets will be sold to participate in the activities and for food. Monetary donations can be made out to Madison's grandma, Katha Arner at 101 West Railroad Street, Nesquehoning. Monetary donations will also be accepted at the event as well as donations in the form of food, paper products, bake sale items and baskets for the basket raffle.
