Nesquehoning's Memorial Day services and parade were held under a beautiful sunny sky. Despite the fact that there was not enough student band members to stretch themselves to parade in Nesquehoning and other towns, the 2013 ceremony went on without a hitch.

The parade consisted of the UVO Honor Guard, representatives of the VFW, the Poppy King and Queen on their float, members of the Anthracite Little League, the Panther Valley Soccer teams and town fire trucks and ambulances, and classic cars.Special guest speaker was Cpl. George Tessitore who said that "Everyday we should remember the freedom we have and not just Memorial Day". He continued by saying, "I remember my fellow soldiers in Afghanistan who did not make it back." He named 17 of them who lost their lives.Chaplain Ed Lucas read off 24 names of the deceased from the past year. A special remembrance was given to VFW member, the late Bill Moskerintz who did so much for the VFW.
