PennDOT subcontractors are halfway done replacing the SR309 bridge of Kershner Creek in West Penn, just north of Snyders.

Crews are replacing the existing concrete T-beam bridge with a new concrete bulb T-beam bridge. Contractors, who limited traffic on West Penn Pike (SR309) to one lane, spent most of the day yesterday installing three large beams, each measuring 73 feet in length and weighing over 31.5 tons.Contractors, J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, have already completed the first half of the bridge, which currently is used for both lanes of SR309 traffic. Also during construction, the intersection of PA 309 and Zion Stone Church Road will be closed to traffic. All vehicles wishing to access Zion Stone Church Road are directed to use Cemetery Road as a detour.PennDOT points out that intermittent lane restrictions with flagging are possible and asks drivers to expect delays and use caution driving through the work zone. The work is part of the ongoing $1.874 million project to replace the bridge. The project began in August 2012 and is expected to be complete by this September.
