Amy Burke of Walnutport, a student at Misericordia University, is starting off the New Year by giving back.

She is currently a senior finishing up her last semester of undergraduate work, and is going on to earn a masters in health and rehabilitation science with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling.Amy is traveling to Jamaica to work in an orphanage with children with special needs and abandoned elderly individuals.Amy is involved in many organizations including Student Spreading Disability Awareness, Multicultural Club and Active Minds. She is president of the Psychology Club and historian of the local American Legion Post 16, while maintaining honors such as dean's list, Presidential Award, Mission Award and attending Leadership Conferences.She is also working with the Disability Rights Network of PA to bring a self advocacy training program to Misericordia to further instruct professionals to help individuals with disabilities advocate for their rights.Amy is very passionate about helping others and plans to dedicate her life serving the community and abroad.Amy is a 2009 graduate of Northern Lehigh High School and is the daughter of George and Judy Burke of Walnutport.
