A mortgage burning program was conducted on Saturday night at the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company, only five years after the mortgage was obtained.
Harry Solt, a trustee of the fire company, placed a cigarette lighter beneath the mortgage envelope and set it on fire, indicating fulfillment of the $90,000 mortgage.
More than 250 persons attended the impressive program.
After the mortgage was burned, Hattie Leyer, a trustee of the ladies auxiliary of the fire company, presented a check to Erwin Wentz, fire company financial secretary, in the amount of $4,088.
