Bears, NW gain wins

Pleasant Valley won its 12th straight game while Northwestern upended rival Northern Lehigh in softball action Friday.

Northwestern used a four-run second inning to hand Northern Lehigh a 7-1 loss in Colonial League play.

Nicole Metzger went 4-for-4 to lead the Tigers (6-12; 4-10). Amber Thomas had a home run for the Bulldogs (8-10; 5-9).

Lydia Danner was the winning pitcher, striking out 14. Thomas suffered the loss.

Lehighton-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley exploded for eight runs in the first inning and cruised to a 15-3 Mountain Valley Conference win over Lehighton.

The Bears, who have won 12 games in a row, received a single, double, two runs and four RBIs from Tracey Duebler. Hailey Marini, the game's winning pitcher, added two singles, a double, two runs and three RBIs.

Also contributing to the victory were Rikki Correll (three hits, two runs), Madison Shaneburger (two hits, two runs, three RBIs) and Mackenzie Caffrey (two hits, two RBIs).

For Lehighton, Sophia Everett had a hit and scored two runs.

The Bears improved to 12-4 overall and 10-0 in the MVC while the Indians dropped to 3-13 and 1-9.

Marian-Holy Cross

Holy Cross loaded the bases and then scored the winning run on a fielder's choice to beat the Fillies 4-3 in a non-league game.

Alex Stroia had a double and scored a run for the Fillies (10-7).

Mackie was the winning pitcher, while Bethany Shaud suffered the loss.

Pleasant Vy.-Salisbury

Jenna Scheller pitched a complete game shutout, striking out seven batters as the Lady Bears shut out the Falcons, 10-0.

Taylor Steckel was two-for-four with two triples. Alyssa Kotzmann, Naomi Morales, and Sarah Margretta added two hits each. PV has won nine straight games.
