SJRA holds Race for Education

St. Joseph's Regional Academy recently held its 10th annual Race for Education at the track at Jim Thorpe Area High School.

During the three-hour long event, 111 students, plus a few teachers other faculty ran or walked the track for the school's major fundraiser.Marcy Vincent, the Race for Education coordinator, explained that the students run around the track for one hour as a way to promote exercise, as well as raise money for field trips, school supplies, and books for the students. Each child receives a sponsor sheet to raise money, based on how many laps they run."The kids love this fundraiser because they can participate in it," she said, adding that the child in each class that runs the most laps receives a medal; while the child in each class that receives the most donations receives a prize.Vincent added that so far, the students raised over $11,000. Typically, by the end of the event, the final total ranges between $13,000 and $18,000.As the students ran by, parents and family members cheered them on and you could see that everyone was having fun.
