Pennsylvania Game Commission personnel will conduct free tours Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. of State Game Lands 110 in Berks and Schuylkill counties and SGLs 211 in Dauphin and Lebanon counties will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SGL 110 encompasses nearly 10,150 acres of historical, scenic and recreational property in a two-county area, and the nine-mile trip begins at the PGC parking lot on Mountain Road, midway between the Shartlesville Exit of Interstate 78 and Route 61, and will exit onto Route 183, north of Strausstown. SGL 211 encompasses more than 44,400 acres in a three-county area, and the tour begins at the Ellendale gate in Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County, seven miles east of Dauphin.PGC executive director Carl Roe said the tours provide the opportunity for those who enjoy nature to come out and talk with agency employees, who are the people directly responsible for managing and protecting these lands. Since the PGC was granted authority to purchase lands for the protection, propagation and management of game and wildlife, and to provide areas for public hunting and trapping in 1919, the agency has acquired more than 1.4 million acres in 65 of the state's 67 counties Philadelphia and Delaware counties being the exceptions.State law mandates the PGC to spend a specific amount of money on habitat improvement each year, and that minimum is based on an established rate of $4.25 for each resident and non-resident adult general hunting license and $2 for each antlerless deer license. During the 2010-11 license year, the PGC sold 818,557 resident and nonresident adult general hunting licenses and 798,568 antlerless deer licenses, for a total minimum of $5,076,003, but in actuality the agency spent $6,700,000 on habitat improvement projects - which was $1,623,997 more that the legislatively-mandated minimum.******A rendezvous and muzzleloader shoot sponsored by First Frontier Militia is being held today and Sunday at Bowmanstown Rod and Gun Club, Gun Club Road, off Route 248, Bowmanstown.******Today is the annual "Harvest of Autumn Fun," at the Ned Smith Center, Millersburg, from noon to 4 p.m. Designed to increase awareness of the natural world with many activities for children and families, the event including live animal presentations, face painting, tours of the pumpkin patch, creating a fall decoration, pumpkin bowling and children's train rides.
