Lehighton man jailed for riot at Penn State

A Lehighton man has received a three-month prison term for participating in a riot at Penn State University last November.

Patrick McLaughlin, 45, was sentenced Thursday by Centre County Senior Judge Charles Brown.McLaughlin was charged with disorderly conduct, failure to disperse and dangerous burning.He tried to light a shirt on fire during the riot that occurred in the downtown area of State College on Nov. 9, after Penn State University's board of trustees fired Joe Paterno as the head football coach.McLaughlin was at State College working at a construction site at the time.The judge allowed McLaughlin to be eligible for work release while in the county jail.McLaughlin's sentencing leaves just one defendant of 46 from the Nov. 9 riot who has not been punished by the court.The case against the last one, a Penn State student, is pending and could go to trial.Those who were Penn State students were suspended from Penn State after the university's internal review, which found 32 students had participated in the riot.
