A pair of Carbon County men accused of stealing a vehicle that was later crashed will have their trial bound over to county court.

Alan Arthofer, 22, of Bowmanstown, and Chad Mack, 23, of Aquashicola, were scheduled Wednesday to have preliminary hearings before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.Instead, the two waived their right to a hearing, and will appear before the county Court of Common Pleas at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. The pair remain incarcerated in the county prison in lieu of $50,000 straight bail.The two men face charges on two counts of receiving stolen property, and one count each of criminal conspiracy, criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, possession of controlled substance, driving under the influence, accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property, notice of change of address, careless driving, driving while operating privilege suspended/revoked, reckless driving, and immediate notice of accident to police department.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Michael Pahira of the Pennsylvania State Police at Lehighton:On July 23, at about 3:12 p.m., Pahira was dispatched to 4195 Fireline Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident in Lower Towamensing Township, according to the affidavit.Upon arrival, Pahira said he spoke with Freddie Lesher of FJ Lesher, who related he watched a black and tan Dodge truck back into the building which he was in at, the affidavit says.Lesher said as he went outside to get information from the vehicle, he witnessed the vehicle flee the area with his neighbor, Mack, as the passenger.At around 5:25 p.m. that day, Pahira was dispatched to 635 Club Road for the report of a stolen motor vehicle in Lower Towamensing Township.While traveling south on State Route 209, Pahira observed a black 1998 Chevrolet truck fitting the description of the stolen vehicle in the area of Cherry Hill Road, at which time he activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. At that time, Pahira identified the driver as Arthofer via his driver's license, who was found to be in possession of a metal pipe/bowl which he used to smoke marijuana. Arthofer also had a stolen Savage Model 93.22 cal rifle serial number 942365 in the front seat of the vehicle loaded with one round in the chamber.Arthofer was then transported to PSP Lehighton, where he then admitted to stealing the 1987 Dodge truck on July 22, which contained the gun, and hitting the building at 4195 Fireline Road on July 23 at about 3:21 p.m. Arthofer also admitted that he took the truck from Club Road. He was then transported to Palmerton Hospital for a blood test.
