Summer Goldy, 16, says Joshua Stepp, 16, of Walnutport, was her best friend in kindergarten through third grade, right up until she and her family moved away from Walnutport. When she heard that her friend had been fatally shot during an attempted burglary while visiting friends in Mt. Morris, Michigan on June 11, she just couldn't believe something like that happened.

When she heard the family needed $2,000 to bring his body home, the first thing she thought was, "I have to donate."She approached her mother, Pat Ohl of Lehighton and said, "We have to do something."Together they thought about ways to raise money and finally decided to hold a bake sale. It will be held this Saturday, June 30 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at R. F. Ohl in Lehighton, located at 400 Interchange Road. They would appreciate any donations of baked items for the bake sale as well.Steve Ohl, president of R. F. Ohl came up with the idea that for every propane tank that is filled that day, they will donate $2 toward the benefit.You can also purchase a hot dog and drink for $1.All proceeds will be donated to the burial fund for Joshua and will be sent to the George G. Bensing Funeral Home in Bath. Anyone wishing to donate can send checks directly to the funeral home at 2165 Community Dr., Bath, PA 18014. In the memo section, please write "Joshua Stepp."Since Summer and Pat initiated the Bake Sale, Joshua's body has been brought home. A viewing and funeral was held on June 25. Pat Ohl says that if the money is not needed for the burial, the money raised will be donated to The Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church at 4331 Main St., Whitehall, PA 18052.
