Montgomery County man admits to series of break-ins

A Montgomery County man admitted to a series of burglaries in the Kidder and Penn Forest townships area of Carbon County on Thursday morning before county Judge Steven R. Serfass. He was one of 10 defendants to enter pleas.

Crime spreeGary Kieffer, 41, of Eagleville, pleaded guilty in six pending cases. He pleaded to four counts of burglary and one count each of robbery, theft and criminal trespass.He was charged by Kidder Township police and state police at Fern Ridge. Kieffer admitted entering several homes in the two townships in November 2010.Kieffer, who is currently in the Montgomery County prison, admitted to the entries in which various items were taken including cash, jewelry and guns.Serfass accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing ordering the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation (PSI).Other pleasOther defendants who entered guilty pleas included:Eugene Jefferson Sillers, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty in three pending cases. He entered pleas to one count each of possession of a controlled substance-heroin, criminal attempt-burglary, and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on the possession of heroin count on Jan. 16 by Lehighton police along S. First St.; on the criminal attempt count by borough police for an incident on Feb. 11 at the Lehighton Coin and Gold Exchange on First St.; and for the paraphernalia charge on Nov. 10, 2011, at the residence of a relative in Lehighton, Police responded to a report of a person unconscious. Heroin was found on his person.Serfass deferred sentencing to a later date.Joseph Andrew Pellegrino Jr., 42, of Kunkletown, pleaded to one count each of terroristic threats and simple assault.He was arrested on Oct. 27, 2009, at the residence of his parents in Towamensing Township. State police responded to the home for a domestic disturbance in which Pellegrino threatened the life of his parents, troopers said. When troopers arrived he was found on th back porch brandishing a knife. He struggled with troopers when they placed him under arrest.Pellegrino admitted to a long term drug and mental health problems. Since his arrest he had got through a inpatient rehabilitation program for about 19 months and did over 600 hours of community service.On the two counts Serfass sentenced him to serve one day less one year to one day less two years, with the terms running concurrently. He was also ordered to render 100 hours of community service, and imposed zero tolerance on D&A use.He was given credit for 665 days in inpatient treatment and jail time and was immediately paroled.Victoria Ann Argott, 33, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on May 11, 2011, in the 100 block of E. Catawissa St., in Nesquehoning, following a vehicle stop.Argott admitted to a drug addiction problem and also that she had a driving under the influence (DUI) charge pending.Serfass placed her on probation for a year and imposed zero tolerance on drug and alcohol (D&A) use, and she must render 50 hours of community service.Gilbert C. Green, 65, of Palmerton, pleaded guilty to one count each of DUI, resisting arrest, simple assault, fleeing and eluding police, and driving under suspension.He was arrested for an incident on May 18, 2011, that started along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. He led borough police on a chase that ended with his vehicle striking a building causing damages. He also almost struck officer Kevin Buck with his vehicle. Given a test, the result was .30BAC.Green told Serfass did not remember the incident because of his intoxication.On the simple assault and resisting counts Serfass placed him on probation for two years, with the terms running concurrently; on the fleeing charge to time served (53 days) to one day less 24 months in jail, consecutive to the first two counts; and on the DUI charge he was sentenced to 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, and a one year license suspension, concurrent with the fleeing charge. On the summary suspension count he was fined $500.He was also ordered to get a D&A evaluation, render 100 hours of community service, supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee, and make total restitution of $10,200.81 for damages done to buildings and vehicles.Adam Ceykovsky, 24, of Danielsville, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct. He was arrested on March 11 by Jim Thorpe police for an incident outside Crocodile Lyle's Bar & Grill at 212 Center St.Serfass placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a D&A evaluation, and render 50 hours of community service.James Nelson Fogarty Jr., 37, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of simple assault. He was arrested on Dec. 4, 2011, at his residence following a domestic incident with his wife, Rebecca Fogarty.He was placed on probation for two years and ordered to attend and complete anger management counseling, and render 100 hours of community service.Keith Cheadle, 18, of Upper Darby, Delaware County, and formerly of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of burglary and theft. He was arrested by Lehighton police for an incident on Aug. 4, 2011, at 442 Cypress St., with Tammy Williams the listed victim.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered a PSI.Dustin Ryan Hill, 23, of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Aug. 25, 2010, along SR54 in Nesquehoning. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred.Anthony Marlow, 55, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. A charge of indecent exposure was dropped. He was arrested for an incident on Nov. 19, 2010, in the area of Hillside Avenue in Palmerton.Serfass imposed a fine of $300 and ordered Marlow have no contact with the female victim.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
