It sounded bad.

Police were dispatched last night to what was termed "an active shooter" incident in the 200 block of West Ruddle Street in Coaldale. The responding police were advised via radio dispatch that the suspect had a "high-powered rifle."The situation was resolved quickly, however, with no shots being fired and no injuries reported.According to Coaldale Chief of Police Tim Delaney, there wasn't even a gun involved.He said apparently one of the responding officers from another community thought he saw a gun, but none was involved.Delaney said Harold Tonkin, 42, of Coaldale, threatened suicide by holding a knife to his throat.Delaney said police spoke with Tonkin who surrendered without incident.Tonkin was then transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale. No charges are being filedThe incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. and the Coaldale police were dispatched to the scene. Also responding were officers from Lansford, Tamaqua, Summit Hill, Nesquehoning and Rush Township.State police were also initially dispatched, but were canceled when the matter was resolved within about 15 minutes."Everybody did a good job," Delaney said. "I appreciate everybody for their assistance."
