NAZARETH - Northern Lehigh senior goalkeeper Kaylee Owens was simply glad to have Bangor's Kristi Dalton on her side during the 31st Annual Lions' Soccer All-Star Classic.

After watching her score two goals against the Bulldogs during the regular season, Owens watched her teammate account for all the offense the Gold team (comprised of Colonial League All-Stars) needed to score a 2-0 victory over the Blue team (comprised of Lehigh Valley Conference and Mountain Valley Conference All-Stars) Sunday afternoon. Thanks to the Gold Team Offensive MVP, Owens was able to combine with Pen Argyl's Abby Laubach in recording a shutout in their last game as high school varsity goalkeepers. The two-year starting goalie pushed aside the individual accomplishment to compliment those who made it possible on the opposite side of the field for the Gold team to walk off Andrew Leh Stadium turf with a victory."I am very happy to have had Kristi on my side today," Owens said. "However, it was really nice to score a shutout since we really didn't have to do too much (as goalkeepers) because we had a good offense. We just kept going on the goal. And, thank goodness for Kristi capitalizing on her opportunities to make a win possible."Meanwhile, Northern Lehigh classmate Jimmy Bilger had to watch missed opportunities result in a 2-0 setback in the boys' game. The Gold team (comprised of Colonial League and Mountain Valley Conference All-Stars) dropped an identical score to the Blue team (comprised of Lehigh Valley Conference All-Stars) in the nightcap."We had plenty of chances during the game," said Bilger, who had two of the Gold team's eight shots. "I had some nice shots on goal myself, but the Blue team's goalkeeper (Jordan Vitkauskas) got his hands on them each time."I guess it just wasn't our day."While Dalton scored a goal in each half for the girls' Gold team, Pleasant Valley senior Katie Forte, who played for the Blue team, just couldn't push one of her two shots past Owens and Laubach.Rather than focus on the setback, and being shut out, the Gold's team Offensive MVP won't let that put that a damper on her final minutes on a high school soccer field."I just feel honored today to be able to play with all of these girls, especially since everyone is so talented," Forte said. "Just to be able to come together one last time with these girls that we have been playing against for many years, it's great. "So, it just feels good to get one last game in for my high school career."Northwestern senior Andrew Willis echoed Forte's remarks as he watched the Boys' Blue team's Liberty's Richard Guedes' and William Allen's Jose Matute's spoil any chance of a win. Guedes accounted for a first-half goal, while Matute recorded an insurance goals to best the Gold team."It's a memorable moment," said Willis, who will play soccer at the collegiate level at King's College. "I was glad I was selected by whoever selected me - my coaches, my teammates, whoever. It's something I will rememeber forever."This was just a great way to go out. It gets me more than ready for college."Palmerton senior Morgan Meyers couldn't have agreed any more herself."I'll never forget it," Meyers added. "I was really happy to be a part of this."I love playing the game of soccer, so it was a lot of fun to end my high school career this way."Also taking part in the Lions' All-Star classic were Northern Lehigh's Morgan Kemmerer, Palmerton's Katie Rinfret, and Pleasant Valley's Sarah Elmontacir (who sat out with a mild injury), Hannah Bernier and Anthony Ruiz.
