SV rallies to beat Bombers

ALLENTOWN Depending on the image being replicated, the phenomena of déjà vu can be either a good or a bad thing.

For Palmerton and head softball coach Glenn Reimer, this instance of familiarity proved all too unpleasant. Reimer saw Saucon Valley pull off a come-from-behind, late-game rally to defeat his Bombers for the second time this season. The sting felt after this loss was a little more painful, though, as Palmerton's 5-1 sixth-inning lead dissipated into a 6-5 loss in the Colonial League semifinals."We had them beat last time and ended up losing," Reimer recalled. "Anyone watching the game today can agree that we gave them this game."Reimer was referring to the bottom of the sixth inning when the five walks and two Bomber errors combined to yield four runs and alter the complexion of the game entirely.Palmerton's problems ensued in the bottom of the seventh, as well, as another throwing error paved the way to the winning run. The comeback capping run sent the Lady Panthers' bench into exultation, as they continue on into the league championship tonight at 5 p.m. at Patriots' Park in Allentown against Pen Argyl."Tonight is proof that you just can never quit," Saucon Valley coach Scott Didra said after the game. "We were patient and held firm on defense and things eventually paid off."In a game where Palmerton outhit their counterparts, 9-5, it seemed that Bomber ace Martina Herring began to falter in the late stages of the game."(Palmerton) took advantage early on and scored three runs on us right out of the gates," Didra said, referring to the consecutive hits by the Bombers' Michelle Rickert, Janel Tracy, Herring and Sierra Miller to begin the game."We definitely got shook up," Didra said. "But then I thought we did a good job of coming together defensively and had some nice plays."For Saucon Valley (16-5), Arastina Barry had two hits and an RBI, Shannon Petsch had a two-run double in the crucial sixth, and Jess Mowrey scored two runs.Michelle Rickert proved to be the toughest out on the day for the Bombers (16-5) as she went 3-for-4. Teammate Sierra Miller also stepped up, going 2-for-4 while Janel Tracy had the top defensive highlight as she fashioned an unassisted double play."We have to move on," said Palmerton's Reimer. "We have districts remaining and that is what we need to focus on. At the beginning of the season, that was our goal - to get to districts. So we need to focus on that."Palmerton 300 101 0 - 5 9 3Saucon Vy. 000 104 1 - 6 5 2Herring and Campbell; Rusu and Schreder. W - Rusu. L - Herring.
