A Penn Forest man was arrested and arraigned on two counts of impersonating a public servant early this month.

State police at Fern Ridge began an investigation on Randy Edwin Merriman of Chippewa Trail, Albrightsville, after an 18-year-old female reported that she was approached by Merriman at 10 p.m. on May 1 as she was walking on Old Stage Road near Lackawanna Road in Mt. Pocahontas.The female told police that Merriman was operating a white Ford Crown Victoria which looked like an unmarked police car. She said that during her conversation with Merriman, he repeatedly identified himself as an off duty police officer and offered her a ride home. She said that Merriman also showed her badges which are carried by police officers.During the course of the investigation, police discovered that on Oct. 28. 2011, Merriman had also identified himself as an off duty police officer to a trooper from the Fern Ridge barracks.After a search warrant was served at Merriman's residence, police found two Middlesex County corrections badges and identification cards, as well as an operable siren and red dash light from Merriman's Ford Crown Victoria.State police at Fern Ridge also reported that police had investigated another incident at Merriman's residence on March 15, 2012. During the course of that investigation, several firearms were seized. A review of Merriman's past criminal history revealed that he had prior felony convictions which prohibited him from possessing firearms.Because of this incident, Merriman was arrested and arraigned on five counts of persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms.
