Sealcoating some roads and paving others are on the upcoming Polk Township calendar as the supervisors agreed 3-0 to advertise for bids.The bids are to be received by 3 p.m., May 21, and then opened at the regular meeting at 7 p.m. They will then be reviewed and awarded at a special meeting.

It was announced that new rules are in place for bidding by townships for expenses. The bidding threshold has been raised from $10,000 to $18,500 and telephone quotes from $4,000 to $10,000.The township will host clean-up day on May 5. The yearly permit fee for utilizing the township solid waste/recycling center is $90 per year. Funds realized from recycled items help control the cost of running the center. A third person may be hired for the center's operation.Line painting is also on the township's agenda, as are a Crime Watch meeting at 7 p.m., May 2, and a Memorial Day ceremony at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 27, at the Veterans Memorial.Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Christian Lenway gave his monthly report.The volunteers were called out 19 times during March, making 45 calls for that time span.He also noted that the fire company is not recommending a burn ban at this time and asked for use of the field next to the firehouse for a portable practice building.The building would, hopefully, be in place by the end of the school year.Announced were that Chestnuthill Township is celebrating its 250th anniversary in September 2013 and that Chestnuthill's Historical Society needs help planning the celebration. An anniversary yard sale will be held Saturday, June 23, in Chestnuthill's park and pavilion to help raise funds for the anniversary festivities.Other announcements included several dates for the Municipal Emergency Management Training Schedule and a PA Game Commission Hunter-Trapper Education course being offered June 9 and June 10 at the Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club,"Healing Waters," a program for disabled veterans to learn fly fishing, will be at the Indian Mountain Rod & Gun Club in Kresgeville on May 9.The board approved two plans, including the lot joinder of Lots D-19 and D-20 located in Robin Hood Lakes, as requested by Muhendin and Almira Agovic Idrizovic, and a 91-day time-extension for the Vernon L. Frable minor subdivision plan.Zoning/Codes officer Gerald Zurat reported that 17 permits had been issued for the past month, bringing the YTD total to 52, and that 21 inspections had been done, bringing that total to 58. Six permits are pending and five complaints were received, bringing that YTD total to 13."Almost done," was Supervisor Nancy May's response to a question about an updated township map. Street addressing work "still goes on," as there are still some problems.Chairman Brian K. Ahner reported that lighting fixtures had all been changed and that the road personnel are patching, fixing signs, with trucks converted to do spring work.Solicitor James Ferari reported on several items including Camp Harlam's recreational cabin and continued legal action involving another issue.The Supervisors adopted a resolution to accept a deed of dedication for a 400 to 500-feet portion of Overlook Drive and voted to accept a contract as it pertains to the Lower Middle Creek Bridge project and voted to accept the $1,750 to $2,000 proposal from Keystone Engineers to do survey work in relation to the township's Flood Plain Designation Appeal.
