The March 12 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was held at St. Joseph's Hall. President Ronnie Bazik opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of God Bless America.In observance of St. Patrick's Day, several members wore green. The prayer of St. Patrick was read by Betty Orsulak and a St. Patrick's Day greeting was read by Irene Hudasky.A moment of silence was held for recently departed members, Joseph Radocha and Catherine Davis. Ruth Ann Feane led the singing with appropriate songs.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 26 at St. Joseph's Social Hall, Summit Hill.Anthracite Little LeagueA meeting of the Anthracite Little League Association will be held on Monday, March 26 at 7 p.m. at the Nesquehoning Borough Building.Summit HillLions ClubThe Summit Hill Lions Club will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Gabriel's Italian Club. Judy Midas, vice president, will chair the session.The guest speaker will be Rick Reaman of the Kovatch Corporation.T.J. Parambo and Shawn Clark will be welcomed as new members of the club.Members planning to attend are asked to contact Midas before Friday, March 23.Historical societyThe Summit Hill Historical Society will meet tonight at 7 o'clock in the museum (former Jean McFadden's Store) on West Ludlow Street. Lee Mantz, president, will chair the session.Among the matters to be discussed are plans for the grand re-opening of the museum, which is planned for Memorial Day weekend; memorial tree nominations; and various fundraisers that the organization has underway.Other meetings of the club are scheduled for April 18, May 16 and June 20.Shade Tree plansThe Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission announces the annual Arbor Day celebration in the borough will be held Saturday, April 28, at 9 a.m. Trees will be planted in the borough following the traditional ceremony in Memorial Park across from the post office.Anyone wishing to donate a tree in memory or to honor someone is welcome to do so. Persons interested in the program can contact Lou Vermillion, (570) 645-9772, or John Kupec, 645-9644, for information about the program.Volunteers are always welcome to help with the plantings.Donations to help in the Shade Tree Commission efforts to maintain and replace trees in the borough are also welcomed by the commission.LansfordBorough councilThe Lansford Borough Council will hold a special meeting tonight at 6:30 in the community center. Rosemary Cannon, president, will be in charge of the session, during which time the council is expected to award a garbage contract. The meeting has also been designated for general purposes.Fire training exercisesThe American Fire Co. No. 1 of Lansford will be conducting live fire training at their east Dock Street training grounds on Saturday, March 24 and Sunday March 25 from 8-5 p.m. Residents are to be aware that smoke conditions may exist within the area and should not be alarmed.St. John LutheranLenten Service at St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. This will be an evening Prayer Service with Holy Communion.For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper will be served at 6 p.m.For more information call the Rev.
