The Polk Township Historical Society wants to repair the bake oven that was moved from the Jonas Hotel to the West End Fairgrounds. President Norman Burger asked at the March 5 meeting if anyone had ideas about the cost.

He said two professional masons offered to do the work but it would have to fit in between paid work.Also, Burger has a lead for a cast iron part that is missing and should be suspended inside. The oven should have two but only one came with it.The Society is also looking for a copper kettle to make apple butter. A paddle for stirring is available.The kickoff for the Chestnuthill 250th anniversary will be held with supervisors from all four townships that were original parts of Chestnuthill meeting with the historical societies at the Chestnuthill Municipal Building on March 22 at 6:30 p.m.They will be setting out goals. If anyone has ideas they should give them to Burger or Ernie Foucault to take to the meeting.A person has volunteered to donate raffle tickets. Donations of prizes are needed, with two having been received at meeting time.The Society has received a hand-cranked canceling machine.Foucault will pick up yard sale items that have been left at the township office.The annual quilt show, organized by Lorraine Everett, will be held June 10.Burger said he would like to put up a monument to all the people who sacrificed land when Beltzville Dam was built. Roy Christman, the speaker for the evening, said he opposed the idea. Although his extended family lost its farm, in retrospect he enjoys the fact that the park keeps open space across the road from his house. He said he would not be farming it and probably would have sold it for development. Besides, some people made out well.Christman presented a slide program of farming in the '50s and '60s.The Christmas banquet, 2012, will be held at Cherry's Sunset Diner, Kresgeville.The April 2 meeting will be held at Burger's Sawmill, Pohopoco Drive, Kresgeville, at 6 p.m.
