The answer is a Cardboard Box Derby, as was presented by the Northern Valley District Cub Scout Sunday at Blue Mountain Ski Area in Palmerton.Over 100 Scouts and family members from Minsi Trails Council participated in the event, whereby Cub Scouts were transported in the device down a snow-covered hill.The device could be a car, boat, flying saucer, or anything that could be built that utilized the aforementioned materials.Heidi Lutz, director of marketing, said the event was a big hit with participants."We couldn't have been more excited to have the Boy Scouts here at Blue Mountain," Lutz said. "It was a great event."Lutz said the event "was a huge success.""We are happy to host the boy scouts in conjunction with our Boy and Girl Scouts weekend," she said. "We will continue to host this event in the future."The annual event is held by the Boy Scouts of America over the winter months. Before race day, Cub Scouts get together with their den and adult leaders and build a "sled" using nothing more than cardboard, duct tape, glue and string.Race day awards were presented to Scouts for fastest runs, longest runs, and best design.Minsi Trails Council provides leadership and character development programs to nearly 17,000 youth with 5,500 adult volunteers.The council serves young people throughout the Anthracite Region, Pocono Mountains and Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania along with western New Jersey and serves six-counties: Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, Carbon, Luzerne, and Warren counties.The local Scouting heritage dates back more than 100 years when the council's first Scout troops were established in the Allentown and Easton areas.To learn more about Scouting, visit
