The public is invited to celebrate Northampton County History Day on Sunday, March 11, at the Sigal Museum in Easton.

The Northampton County History Day event is sponsored by Passport to History, an alliance of the county's historical societies and organizations. Commemorating Northampton County's March 11 incorporation in 1752, the day's program launches the Passport program.Passport to History 2012 introduces visitors to more than twenty historical sites throughout Northampton County. The free passport provides times of staffing, directions and overview of historical sites, and contact information so that visitors can peruse the rich historical offerings of Northampton County. Passports will be stamped at each participating site.David Vilcek, Chair of the program, says, "It's a wonderfully fun way for families to learn the history of their own geographical region. The sites testify to our rich historical heritage, right here in Northampton County."At the conclusion of the yearlong program, awards will be issued to well-traveled visitors at next year's Northampton County History Day in March, 2013.The free, open-to-the-public event will be held at the Sigal Museum, 342 Northampton Street, Easton, from 2-4 p.m. Frank Whelan, historian and author, will give a talk on Northampton County history at 2:30 p.m. Throughout the afternoon, reenactors of the 153rd (Northampton County's own volunteer regiment during the Civil War) will join member organizations in welcoming visitors back in time. Refreshments will be served in celebration of the County's birthday.
